Prayer of the Elders of Optina
☩ Evening Prayers (version 1) ☩
O Lord, grant that I may meet the coming night with inner peace.
Help me to surrender myself completely to Thy holy will. In every hour of this night instruct and guide me.
Whatever tidings I may receive during the night, teach me to accept them calmly, in the firm conviction that all is subject to Thy holy will.
Direct my thoughts and feelings in all my words and actions.
In unforeseen events, let me not forget that all is sent by Thee.
Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering and embarrassing others.
Give me strength to bear the fatigue of the coming night with all that it shall bring. Direct my will.
Teach me to pray. Pray Thou Thyself in me.
Amen.
